U.S. alleges that criminal networks are paying for attacks on immigration agents

They claim to track ICE and CBP movements in real time

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that Mexican criminals, in coordination with U.S. extremist groups, have offered specific rewards for harassing or attacking immigration agents who comply with President Donald Trump’s campaign of mass deportations.

Citing “credible” information, DHS claimed that criminal networks have explicitly instructed U.S.-based sympathizers to surveil and attack Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.

Reward offered for targeting immigration agents

In Chicago, gang members affiliated with groups such as the Latin Kings have deployed “spotters” on rooftops to track ICE and CBP movements in real time, transmitting coordinates of raids, especially in heavily Hispanic neighborhoods such as Pilsen and La Villita.

“This surveillance has allowed for ambushes and disruptions during routine security actions, including recent raids as part of Operation Midway Blitz (in Chicago),” DHS explained.

The groups are also reportedly offering rewards of up to $2,000 for collecting or disclosing agents’ personal information (including photos and family data). Higher amounts would be offered for assaulting agents.

Meanwhile, U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi reported that Facebook removed a group where Chicagoans shared information about when and where there were sightings of ICE agents in the city.

The DHS announcement coincides with ICE’s deadline to remove the metal fence in front of its Broadview processing center to comply with a court order.

ICE has said it installed the fence to defend its agents from protests against immigration raids.

DHS also charged that protesters in Portland, Oregon, have accused them of targeting its agents, even though the protests have been painted in a particular hue with costumed people and naked bicyclists joining the peaceful protests on Sunday.
