Legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers surprised the sports world by confirming that he will finish his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers, the team where he became a superstar. In an interview with ESPN, the current quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, 41, stated that his American soccer story “began and will end in Green Bay”.

“I feel very grateful for my time there. Almost everything good in my life has come from my soccer career, and I know that someday not too far down the road, it will all go back to where it started – in Green Bay,” said Aaron Rodgers. The announcement comes at a special time: Rodgers currently leads the Steelers with a 4-2 record in the AFC North after a convincing win over Minnesota. However, beyond his competitive present, the quarterback seems to be clear that his last uniform will be the green and gold.

A legacy of almost two decades

Aaron Rodgers was selected by the Packers in the first round of the 2005 Draft.

For 18 seasons he wrote one of the most successful stories in the modern NFL.

He won Super Bowl XLV and was elected MVP four times (2011, 2014, 2020, 2021).

He accumulated more than 59,000 air yards and 475 touchdowns with the Wisconsin franchise.

His departure in 2022 for the New York Jets marked the beginning of a new era that was cut short by a ruptured Achilles tendon in his first game.

In 2024 he tried to return, but the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Already in 2025, with the Steelers, he has still shown he has arm and leadership, but his sights are set on closing out his career “at home.”

“This game would mean a lot more if it was at Lambeau Field,” Rodgers said before the Steelers-Packers matchup this Sunday.

“Lambeau’s hallowed turf and all the memories I have there are something I will cherish forever.”

Aaron Rodgers also had words for Jordan Love, the Packers’ current quarterback and his former teammate for three seasons.

“I respect him a lot. If I had to exchange my jersey with anyone, it would definitely be with him,” he said, showing his appreciation for the new generation that took his place.

The veteran quarterback is considered a future member of the NFL Hall of Fame, and several analysts already anticipate that Green Bay will retire the number 12 in his honor, joining the list of legends such as Brett Favre and Bart Starr.
