Actor Mickey Rourke has launched a fundraising campaign on the Gofundme platform to raise $100,000 to avoid being evicted from his rental home. “Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability,” states the announcement on the platform.

The 73-year-old actor has currently raised approximately $50,000 through a total of 1,239 donations, half of his goal.

The campaign has been created with Rourke’s consent by Liya-Joelle Jones, a friend of the actor and part of his team. The fundraiser on the popular platform is called ‘Help Mickey Rourke stay in his home’.

“Mickey is going through a very difficult time and it’s been incredibly touching to see how many people care about him and want to help him,” Jones told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Life doesn’t always move in a straight line, and despite all that Mickey has contributed with his work and his life,” he adds, “he now faces a difficult financial situation that has put his home at risk.

“Fame does not protect against hardship, and talent does not guarantee stability,” the description adds. “What remains is a person who deserves dignity, housing and the opportunity to regain his or her equilibrium.”

The actor received the eviction notice on Dec. 18 for an apartment he had been renting since March 2025 for $5,200 a month, which was later increased to $7,000 a month, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Rourke rose to fame in the 1980s with films such as ‘9 ½ Weeks’ and ‘Diner’, but abandoned his acting career to take up boxing professionally, a decision that led to serious injuries.

Even so, Rourke never completely disappeared from acting, with roles in ‘Sin City’ or ‘Domino’. One of his best roles in recent years, reported Agencia EFE, was in Darren Aronofsky’s ‘The Wrestler’, in which he played an aging professional wrestler and which earned him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination.
