MLS announced on Monday, March 2, that the ‘All-Star 2026’ will pit the stars of the North American league against the stars of Liga MX on July 29 in Charlotte, as has been the case in the last two editions.
Charlotte’s 75,000-seat Bank of America Stadium will host the 30th edition of the ‘All-Star’ event, which will include skills tests and a match between MLS and Mexican league stars.
Divided history and controversy over Messi

The U.S.-Canada team defeated the Mexican team (three goals to one) last year in Texas.
In 2024, the Liga MX side won by four goals to one in Ohio.
On other occasions, MLS has invited European clubs, which begin their preseason at that time.
The last All-Star game was marked by the absence of Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, despite the fact that both were called up.
As a result, MLS imposed a one-game suspension with Inter Miami, as they felt their foul was unjustified.

In MLS, the nomination process is split between a vote of fans, league players and the press.
That picks twelve players, the coach’s choice of the ‘All-Star’ team, who nominates another twelve, and the final two are selected by MLS commissioner Don Garber.
Liga MX has not announced its selection process for this year.
