Club América has decided to open a new chapter in its sports history, as after the departure of André Jardine, the Azulcrema board of directors reached an agreement for Guillermo Almada to become the team’s new technical director for the Apertura 2026 tournament.
The decision comes after a season marked by high expectations and results that did not end up convincing the demanding fans. The elimination against Pumas in the quarterfinals of the Clausura 2026 accelerated movements in Coapa and led the board to seek new leadership for one of the most important clubs in Mexico.
Guillermo Almada, a bet with proven experience

Guillermo Almada comes to América with extensive knowledge of Mexican soccer.
Throughout his career in Liga MX, he has led successful projects and has earned recognition for developing young players, strengthening squads and proposing an intense, attacking style.
His most outstanding stage was with Pachuca, where he won the Liga MX title in the Apertura 2022.
Subsequently, he achieved important international successes that consolidated his prestige in Mexico and abroad.
Before joining América, Guillermo Almada also gained experience in European soccer.
Strengthening a profile that for years was considered attractive for several of the most important clubs in the country.
The end of a historic era with André Jardine

The arrival of Guillermo Almada also marks the end of one of the most successful periods in América’s recent history.
André Jardine leaves the institution after three years in which he managed to become the club’s winningest coach.
Under his leadership, the Águilas won a historic three-time Liga MX championship.
In addition to other national and international titles that strengthened the dominance of the American team during that period.
His management allowed América to consolidate its position as one of the most competitive teams in the region.
Although in the last few tournaments signs of sporting attrition began to appear.
Consecutive eliminations in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and some adverse results in key competitions ended up influencing the decision to close the cycle.

Almada’s great challenge

The new coach’s mission will not be easy.
América continues to be the winningest club in Mexico and has a fan base accustomed to fighting for titles every semester.
In addition to competing for the Liga MX, the team has yet to regain international prominence.
As well as once again becoming a serious candidate to win the CONCACAF Champions Cup, a goal that has eluded them in recent years.
Almada inherits a squad with talent, experience and constant pressure for results.
His challenge will be to maintain the competitive level left by Jardine and, at the same time, put his own stamp on the game.
