The start of the Clausura 2026 has not been at all easy for Club América, which is going through one of the most worrying offensive starts in the institution’s history. After a 0-0 draw against Pachuca at the Hidalgo stadium, the Águilas confirmed an alarming statistic: they have failed to score in their first three games, their worst scoring start in 56 years, since the 1970 Mexico campaign.

Although América dominated the match at times against the Tuzos and generated superiority in stretches of the game, the problem was once again the same: a lack of scoring chances. For a team as demanding as the Azulcrema’s, it is a hard blow, especially so early in the tournament, to let points slip away because of a lack of chances.

Three rounds, zero goals: the worrying statistic

The poor offensive start was built day after day:

Day 1: 0-0 tie with Xolos de Tijuana
Day 2: 0-2 loss against Atletico de San Luis at home
Day 3: 0-0 draw against Pachuca at Hidalgo

With these results, América is not only dropping important points along the way, but also faces an uncomfortable scenario:

Zero goals in three games, something that had not happened for more than half a century.

The historical precedent: Mexico 1970

The most similar precedent occurred in the Mexico 1970 campaign, when the tournaments were still played in the long format.

In that first match, América lost 0-1 against Toluca, also lost to Laguna by the minimum difference and drew 0-0 against Pachuca in the third matchday.

In that tournament, where Cruz Azul finished as champions, América was slow to take flight:

He won until Day 6 against Irapuato, although his first goal came earlier, in Day 4, in a 1-1 draw against Atlante.

The problem was the same again: a lack of finishing

For Hispanic fans in the United States – who follow America as one of the most popular clubs in Liga MX – this start leaves a key question:

Is it just a rough patch or a deeper problem?

A goalless start often increases the pressure on strikers and coaching staff, but it can also affect the team’s confidence.

In short tournaments, such as the Clausura, every match day counts and an early bad run can complicate direct qualification.

Next match: America vs Necaxa

The opportunity to change history comes quickly.

The Águilas’ next game in the Clausura 2026 will be on January 31 at 9:00 p.m., when they face Necaxa at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium.

For América, this match feels like an obligation: to win and, above all, to score again.

Because for a club with the history, pressure and expectations of América, going without a goal is not only a bad start… it’s a crisis that no one wants to see grow.
