The Central Bank of Argentina(BCRA) launched this Tuesday a silver coin on the occasion of the 2026 World Cup, which has engraved on the back the outline of Diego Armando Maradona’s historic goal (goal of the century) against England in the quarterfinals of the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
“The BCRA issued a commemorative silver coin dedicated to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, whose main motif is an outline of the legendary play of Argentina’s second goal against England in Mexico 1986, considered the best in the history of the World Cup,” the agency announced in a statement, in which it stressed that next year’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada “will mark 40 years since that sporting milestone.”
The design that revives Maradona’s magic

The upper arch is inscribed with the words “República Argentina” and the lower arch with the words “FIFA World Cup 2026″,” the statement said.
The reverse side shows an outline of Maradona’s mythical play (goal of the century), from the moment he receives the ball behind midfield.
Even the shot on goal after dribbling past four English players and goalkeeper Peter Shilton.
