Avatar: Fire and Ash surprises at the box office and continues to triumph

Avatar: Fire and Ash has been in first place at the global box office for three weeks.

Avatar: Fire and Ash’ remains number one at the box office after two weeks in theaters with a cumulative worldwide gross of $760 million, with $64 million in the U.S. alone and $57 million in China this weekend.

According to data from the website Box Office Mojo, James Cameron’s saga was followed in the United States by ‘Zootopia 2’ -$20 million-, ‘Marty Supreme’ -$15.6 million-, ‘The Housmaid’ -$15.4 million- and ‘Anaconda’ -$14.6 million-, the latter being the only one released this weekend.

One of this weekend’s surprises is the entry of ‘Marty Supreme’, starring Timothée Chalamet, among the top-grossing films, one week after its release. The film, which has only been released in the United States for the moment, has accumulated a gross of $28 million.

The film is a biopic of Marty Reisman, a hustler turned ping pong champion, who started playing for stakes and ended up winning 22 major titles. The production company behind the film is A24, one of the leading independent studios behind the film with ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ and ‘Lady Bird’.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chalamet is playing a key role in promoting the film.

Zootopia 2′ has grossed US$1.42 billion worldwide after five weeks in theaters, reported Agencia EFE, and more than US$500 million of this total has been raised in China, where it has become a hit with audiences who go to theaters with their pets.
