Universal Pictures announced that the iconic film Back to the Future, directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg, will be re-released in theaters in the United States and other countries on October 31, 2025, in commemoration of its 40th anniversary. The re-release will include special IMAX screenings and remastered high-definition versions, allowing new generations to enjoy the classic in optimal conditions.
The film, originally released in 1985, has become a cross-generational cultural phenomenon. Starring Michael J. Fox as the young Marty McFly, and Christopher Lloyd as the eccentric “Doc” Emmett Brown, Back to the Future combined science fiction, humor, action and heart, earning it a special place in movie history.

The plot follows McFly, a typical 1980s teenager who accidentally travels back in time – specifically to 1955 – in a DeLorean car modified by his scientist friend.
There, he unwittingly interferes with his parents’ first meeting and puts his own existence at risk.
To correct the course of time and return to the present, he must ensure that his parents fall in love, while preventing them from discovering his true identity.
The film grossed more than $388 million at the worldwide box office in its year of release, making it the highest-grossing film of 1985.

It was nominated for four Oscars and won Best Sound Editing.
Its success spurred the creation of two sequels: Back to the Future Part II (1989), which explored a hypothetical 2015, and Back to the Future Part III (1990), set in the Old West.
In addition to the film trilogy, the franchise spawned an animated series, comic books, video games and a theatrical adaptation that debuted on Broadway in 2023 to rave reviews.
It has also remained relevant thanks to constant references in popular culture, from series like Stranger Things to Super Bowl commercials.
Universal confirmed that the re-release will include exclusive content, such as never-before-seen interviews with the original cast and restored behind-the-scenes footage.
Fans are expected to come to the theaters dressed as their favorite characters and special screenings will be held in cities with a strong Latino presence, such as Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago and Miami.
For the U.S. Hispanic community, this reunion with the past represents an opportunity to relive one of cinema’s most beloved stories and share it with children and grandchildren.
