The recent statements made by singer Lupillo Rivera about his relationship with Belinda have already had legal consequences. The Spanish performer filed a formal complaint against him for the crimes of digital and media violence, after considering that the artist violated her private life and dignity by disclosing personal information in his new autobiographical book.

According to a statement issued by the law firm Maceo, Torres & Asociados, the complaint was filed on October 2 before the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX). In the document, the singer’s legal representatives detailed that the artist decided to go to the authorities due to Rivera’s repeated mentions of her past relationship, which -according to the text- “expose intimate and personal aspects without her consent”.

Following the filing of the complaint, the Attorney General’s Office determined to grant immediate protective measures in favor of Belinda. Among these measures, Lupillo Rivera is expressly prohibited from approaching or attempting to communicate with the artist by any means, as well as from making offensive statements or public allusions related to her.

In addition, the judicial authority ordered the singer to remove from his social networks any content, publication or comment that makes direct reference to the interpreter of “Cactus” or her private life. These measures will remain in force while the corresponding investigation process is carried out, in order to ensure the safety and emotional well-being of the complainant.

The legal action taken by Belinda comes just days after the release of the book “Tragos amargos” (Bitter Drinks), an autobiography written by Lupillo Rivera. In this publication, the brother of the late singer Jenni Rivera addresses various episodes of his personal and professional life, including unpublished details about his alleged romance with Belinda, which would have taken place in 2019, during their joint participation as coaches on the show “La Voz Mexico”.

In the text, Rivera gives her version of how the relationship began and ended, mentioning personal situations that, according to Belinda’s lawyers, were never authorized to be publicly disclosed. These revelations, accompanied by recent comments in interviews and presentations, motivated the artist to seek legal protection under Mexican laws that sanction media and digital violence against women.

The law firm Maceo, Torres & Asociados emphasized in its press release that the status of public figure does not grant third parties the right to use the image or disclose intimate information without express consent.

“Being a public figure does not legitimize the use of her image or the revelation of aspects of her intimate life without express consent,” the statement said. “These acts constitute gender-based violence and a violation of human rights.”

Likewise, the representatives of the interpreter of “Luz sin gravedad” emphasized that freedom of expression is not an absolute right, and that it cannot be invoked to justify actions that generate emotional damage or undue media exposure. The statement stresses that the unauthorized dissemination of private information in digital media or platforms falls within the legal framework of digital violence, which is typified in Mexican law.

So far, Lupillo Rivera has not issued an official statement regarding the complaint or the protective measures imposed. However, in a previous interview to the program “Ventaneando”, made weeks before the news, the interpreter of “Grandes ligas” was questioned about the possibility of facing legal actions by his ex-partner.

The singer responded firmly: “I don’t ask anyone for permission,” he said at the time, minimizing rumors of a possible lawsuit.

Despite his apparent calmness, the situation has generated great media attention and divided opinions in social networks. While some users support Rivera’s right to share his version of events, others consider that the artist exceeded the limits of respect and privacy by telling intimate episodes without authorization.

The conflict between Belinda and Lupillo Rivera revives the discussion about the limits between private life and public interest in the world of entertainment. In Mexico, the legislation on digital violence seeks precisely to protect the integrity, reputation and rights of women against the improper use of their image or personal information in media and platforms.

For now, the investigation remains open in the capital’s District Attorney’s Office, while both parties remain silent about the process. What is certain is that the controversy adds a new chapter to a relationship that, despite having ended years ago, continues to generate media and legal repercussions.
