The Texas A&M student community and family members of Brianna Aguilera, a young college student with aspirations of becoming a lawyer, are demanding answers following her mysterious death in the early morning hours of Nov. 30 in Austin, Texas.

Although the police claim that there is no evidence of a crime, the family insists that there are too many doubts about what happened that night and asks that the case be investigated further.

According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded to a call at 12:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, for a report of an unconscious woman inside an apartment complex on West Campus, an area heavily trafficked by students.

Brianna Aguilera was pronounced dead just 12 minutes later, at 12:57 a.m.

Police reported that, for now, the case is not being investigated as a homicide and that “there are no signs of suspicious circumstances”.

They also indicated that the official cause of death has not yet been determined and that the investigation remains open, pending the county medical examiner’s report.

A previous night still full of questions

According to the family, Brianna Aguilera had attended a tailgate Friday night in connection with the game between Texas A&M and the University of Texas at Austin, one of the most well-attended and festive sporting events of the college season.

It was the first time in months that Brianna was able to meet with several classmates.

“Details about what happened after tailgate remain unclear,” his family wrote in a GoFundMe campaign set up to cover funeral and legal expenses.

Brianna’s loved ones say she had no history of health problems, did not use drugs, and would never have intentionally endangered her safety.

He was a student at The Bush School of Government & Public Service, one of Texas A&M’s most prestigious schools, and was one year away from receiving his Aggie Ring, a symbol of honor and academic excellence within the university.

“She was pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer,” her family wrote. “Our hearts are broken.”

His teachers and classmates have expressed shock at his death.

Brianna Aguilera was noted for her involvement in community service activities and student leadership programs, as well as her interest in social justice and public policy issues.

Family questions speed of initial report

Although police claim there is no evidence of a crime, the family maintains that such quick conclusions are troubling.

No cause of death has yet been given, it has not been clarified who Brianna was with after the tailgate, there has been no information on whether there were interviews with witnesses or residents of the building, and there is no clear explanation as to why the police dismissed any suspicions so early on.

Friends of Brianna Aguilera have also reported on social networks that some people left the area of the incident before the police arrived, which they say should be investigated.

While waiting for official answers, the Aguilera family continues to ask that the case not be prematurely dismissed.

They have also requested that anyone who was present during the tailgate, or who saw her in the hours afterward contact them or the Austin police.
