The possible fight between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Jake Paul comes back every now and then to ignite the social networks. The American, who went from being a content creator to a professional boxer, has insisted on challenging the Mexican and has used his enormous media reach to keep the topic alive. However, so far, the fight is far from materializing.
Mauricio Sulaiman, president of the World Boxing Council, explained that the main obstacle is not the money or the attention the event would generate, but the weight difference between the two. Canelo has spent much of his recent career at 168 pounds, the super middleweight division, while Jake Paul has usually competed in higher weight classes.
Weight, the big problem for Canelo vs. Jake Paul

Although a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jake Paul would have a huge commercial impact, Sulaiman has been clear:
The physical difference makes it very difficult to imagine a serious agreement.
In order for the fight to take place, one of the parties would have to make significant weight concessions.
Something that could affect sports preparation, performance and safety.
Sulaiman himself acknowledged that Jake Paul is a publicity expert and that every time he mentions Canelo Alvarez he manages to put the topic in the public conversation.
But it is one thing to generate expectation and quite another to close a professional fight with reasonable sporting conditions.
Jake Paul knows how to get attention

Jake Paul has built a career around showmanship, viral challenges and high-impact media fights.
His name guarantees an audience, conversation in social networks and large financial pockets.
So it’s no surprise that he is looking to Canelo Alvarez, one of the biggest names in world boxing and a central figure for the Mexican and Hispanic community in the United States.
However, Canelo doesn’t need that fight to stay relevant.
The tapatío continues to be linked to championship bouts and opponents directly related to boxing’s elite.
So far, the fight is far from hapenning
