Carlos Vela, who retired at the end of 2024 after seven seasons in MLS, was the first signing in LAFC’s history and its captain during the club’s best years.

He led the team to the MLS title in 2022, the Supporters’ Shield in 2019 and 2022, and the runner-up spot in 2023.

Individually, he signed the best season by a player in the league with 34 goals in 31 games in 2019, a year in which he was recognized as MVP.

Beyond the numbers, his leadership and charisma marked a before and after for the Los Angeles club.

His story joins that of the great Latino references who have left their mark on U.S. soccer.
