Statements made a few months ago reignited the controversy this weekend, after Carolina Sandoval publicly reacted to a video starring Ángela Aguilar. Ángela Aguilar.
The communicator not only shared the fragment in her networks, but also openly expressed her disagreement with what she considered a lack of respect towards one of the most important figures of Mexican pop music: Gloria Trevi.
Ángela Aguilar’s video that sparked the controversy
It all goes back to an interview in which Ángela Aguilar was questioned about Trevi and her iconic song Pelo Suelto. In the clip, the young singer appears relaxed and smiling, and answers with apparent doubt: “Is she the one who sings ‘I let my hair down, I dressed like a queen, I wore heels and I painted myself beautiful…’?”, also referring to the song Todos Me Miran.
Although Aguilar showed that she knew the melody, her initial reaction was interpreted by some as a way of minimizing or ignoring the artist from Monterrey. For Sandoval, this detail did not go unnoticed.
“This is what makes an artist lose, I don’t know if the respect of many, or one wonders, did she do it as a joke? Wait, look at this,” expressed the collaborator of the program. ¡Siéntese Quien Pueda! before showing the video.
After playing the excerpt, Sandoval was blunt. “Is she going to say if she is the one who sings ‘me solté el cabello’? Everyone in Mexico knows who Gloria Trevi is for multiple reasons!” she stated. The presenter also reflected on the public perception surrounding Ángela, pointing out that these types of comments could influence the way part of the public perceives her.
“Then they ask about the bullying they do to her, then they ask why many people don’t end up fitting in with the way she is… It doesn’t only have to do with her relationship with Christian Nodal,” she added, hinting that, in her opinion, there are other factors that influence public opinion.
Divided reactions in networks to Carolina Sandoval’s remarks
As usually happens when Sandoval shares his opinion, social networks exploded. Some applauded his frankness and agreed that Aguilar’s reaction could be interpreted as ill-advised. Others, on the other hand, considered that it was a comment without bad intentions and criticized that the controversy was revived months later.
Faced with the wave of comments -both of support and rejection-, the communicator reaffirmed her position in her Instagram stories. “I found it extremely disrespectful. I would be ashamed if I was asked about something from any colleague in the media and I said: ‘Ah, are you talking about the one who says…?'”, she said.
Although the episode is not recent, the controversy once again placed Ángela Aguilar at the center of the digital debate, demonstrating how a brief comment can be reactivated and generate conversation some time later.
