Colombia started off better.
In the 11th minute James Rodriguez came close to giving his team the lead with a left-footed shot.
Five minutes later, James sent a cross into the box, Lucumí accepted the ball and with a left-footed shot made it 0-1.
Mexico improved, took possession of the ball and created the best chances, but lacked accuracy.
El Tri came out with advanced lines in the second half, but when they were playing better, James put a ball in the 56th for Diaz, lethal with a right touch to the goalkeeper’s exit for the 0-2.
From then on, there was only one team on the field.
Colombia went for more and in the 65th minute scored a goal with a right-footed shot by Lerma.
Another Carbonero shot, after an assist from Juan Fernando Quintero, closed the score in the 87th minute.
Mexico, lackluster, created its best scoring chance in the last play of the match, in the 90th minute, a shot by Germán Bertrame that hit the post.
Next Tuesday, El Tri will face Ecuador and Colombia will face Canada in friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup to be played in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
