Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes not only passed on his last name to his children, but also the eye of the US justice system. Ruben and Jessica Johanna, “El Menchito” and “La Negra,” went from being the princes of the CJNG to key players on the US judicial chessboard.

While “El Mencho” was hiding in the mountains of Jalisco, his sons lived a very different reality, amid luxury, business and, finally, the cold of a prison cell. Here we tell you the story of the heirs who could not succeed the “Lord of the Roosters”.

Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez: “El Menchito”.

Born in California (which gave him US citizenship, facilitating his extradition), Ruben was considered the second in command of the CJNG.

Unlike his father, Rubén preferred a more operational profile in the Guadalajara metropolitan area.

The capture: He was arrested several times, but always managed to get out… until 2015, when the Mexican justice system detained him definitively.

The final blow: In 2020 he was extradited to the US. Today he faces drug trafficking charges that could keep him in prison for life. His fall was the first big emotional blow for “El Mencho.

Jessica Johanna Oseguera: “La Negra”.

If Ruben was the operational arm, Jessica was the financial brains.

A marketing graduate from a prestigious university in Guadalajara, she was in charge of laundering the money from the “four letters” through tequila, restaurant and advertising companies.

La Negra’s” mistake: In a move that many called arrogant or naïve, Jessica traveled to Washington D.C. in 2020 to attend a hearing for her brother. The DEA did not miss the opportunity and arrested her in the middle of court.

Sentence and freedom: After serving a 30-month sentence for running drug-related businesses, Jessica was released in 2022. However, her ability to operate financially was destroyed and she remains under the authorities’ scrutiny.

Is there anyone else left in the line of succession?

There is said to be a third daughter, Laisha Oseguera, who has kept a much lower profile, although her name came to light after the kidnapping of two marines in 2021, allegedly ordered by her following the capture of her mother, Rosalinda González Valencia, according to the website Guillermo Ortega Noticias.

The fall of “El Mencho’s” sons shows that, for the US justice system, the family is the weakest point of the big capos.

Without his direct heirs at large, the CJNG empire now faces a succession crisis that could crumble the organization from within.
