When organized crime took away her daughter Karen, kidnapped and murdered in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, Miriam Rodriguez decided she would not stand idly by. HERE you can listen to the podcast.

The new episode of the podcast Casos del Crimen con El Sargento, entitled “La mujer caza-secuestradores: El caso de Miriam Rodríguez” (The woman who hunts kidnappers: The case of Miriam Rodríguez), tells step by step the crusade of this mother who, disguised and moved by pain, managed for three years to locate and hand over at least ten members of the criminal group that destroyed her life.

Miriam Rodriguez’s life changed in 2014, when Karen was kidnapped by cartel members in Tamaulipas.

Faced with the indifference and corruption of the authorities, Miriam decided to pursue leads on her own.

She disguised herself as a social worker, visited dangerous neighborhoods, interviewed acquaintances of the criminals and weaved a web of information that eventually led to the imprisonment of several perpetrators.

However, his bravery came at a high cost.

On May 10, 2017, Mother’s Day in Mexico, Miriam was shot and killed in front of her home.

Her story became a symbol of the solitary struggle of thousands of mothers in Mexico who face violence, disappearances and impunity.

The analysis of El Sargento Carlos Cornejo

In this episode, host Carlos Cornejo, better known as El Sargento, takes an in-depth look at this case that shook the country.

With his experience as a police officer in the U.S. and his background bringing security and crime issues to the Hispanic community, Cornejo exposes the failures of the Mexican state.

As well as Miriam’s bravery and the impact her story continues to have on the debate about disappearances and femicides.

The Sergeant not only recounts the facts, but also provides context on how this case reflects a national reality.

That of thousands of families who, in the absence of justice, become improvised investigators to search for their disappeared.

Mexico is facing a crisis of violence and disappearances that has reached alarming levels.

More than 100,000 people remain officially missing, and femicides continue to be an open wound in Mexican society.

The story of Miriam Rodriguez joins that of thousands of mothers who, between hope and desperation, lead searches in clandestine graves, raise collectives and put their bodies in front of a State that fails to guarantee justice.
