A U.S. citizen identified as Daniel Silvestre Manjarrez, alias El Dani, was arrested in Culiacán, Sinaloa, by Mexican authorities after being identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as allegedly responsible for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. The apprehension was made on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 as part of a joint operation between Mexican and U.S. forces.

The capture was confirmed by Omar García Harfuch, head of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), who informed that the arrested man had an Interpol red notice and a valid arrest warrant issued in the United States. His location and arrest, explained the official, were made possible thanks to an intelligence operation within the framework of international cooperation against drug trafficking.

Daniel Silvestre Manjarrez arrested

According to an official statement from the SSPC, Manjarrez’s arrest took place at a home in the Infonavit Humaya neighborhood, a residential area located in the city of Culiacán.

Federal agents located the property where he was hiding and, after confirming his identity, proceeded to arrest him without any confrontation.

The operation involved members of several agencies, including the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the National Guard and personnel from the federal Security Cabinet itself.

The authorities indicated that this joint work is part of the effort to locate and neutralize individuals considered to be generators of violence, both in Mexico and in the United States.

Within the framework of Operation Northern Border

The arrest of El Dani is part of the efforts of the so-called Operation Northern Border, a bilateral agreement between Mexico and the Donald Trump administration since February 2025.

This is aimed at reinforcing border controls and curbing the flow of drugs, weapons and people.

This operation was negotiated by the Trump administration as part of a package of measures to avoid the imposition of tariffs on Mexican products.

Since its implementation, Mexican authorities report the capture of 8,707 people linked to federal crimes.

As well as the seizure of more than 107 tons of various drugs, including 494 kilograms of fentanyl, one of the most lethal substances currently in circulation and responsible for thousands of overdose deaths in the U.S. each year.

The case of Daniel Silvestre Manjarrez reflects the growing role of U.S. citizens in transnational drug trafficking networks and the urgency of strengthening collaboration mechanisms between the two countries.

Mexican authorities reiterated their commitment to work in a coordinated manner to combat fentanyl trafficking, which has been classified as a public health crisis by the U.S. government.

Following his arrest, Manjarrez was handed over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office pending extradition proceedings requested by U.S. authorities.

It is expected that in the next few days his legal situation in Mexico will be determined and the corresponding process will begin.
