Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts is still not fully recovered after facing a rare illness that has severely affected his health.

A few hours before Opening Day in the United States (March 27), the player has shown progress, but his condition continues to be a cause for concern for the team and its fans, especially for the Hispanic community that follows the Dodgers closely.

Despite having undergone multiple medical tests, doctors have not yet determined with certainty the origin of his discomfort.

It has included frequent vomiting when consuming solid foods, weight loss and a diet limited to liquids.

Last Sunday, Mookie Betts was removed from the starting lineup just 90 minutes before the game against the Angels after suffering another bout of vomiting.

Venezuelan Miguel Rojas was his replacement.

While in Japan for the season-opening games against the Chicago Cubs, Betts received intravenous treatment and was sent home early.

Manager Dave Roberts is optimistic:

“He tried solid food, he kept it up, he completed his workout…I think he will be ready for Thursday,” he said of his possible participation in the matchup against Detroit Tigers at Dodger Stadium.

Mookie Betts has resumed training and played in the last exhibition game against the Angels, although his body weight has dropped from 79 to 70 kg, a significant reduction that could affect his performance.

On the other side, Shohei Ohtani continues his process to return as a pitcher.

After a month off the mound, he pitched Saturday as part of his rehab.

Although he will remain a designated hitter, the Dodgers hope to integrate him as a starter in May.

This could mark his return to a two-way role.

Ohtani started both games of the Series in Japan.

However, he still needs several bullpen sessions and game drills before competing as a pitcher.
