The Miami Dolphins have hired former Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new head coach for the next five seasons, NFL Network reported Monday.
Hafley, 46, replaces the dismissed Mike McDaniel, who until January 8 last year completed four seasons, and in the last two delivered negative results: 8 wins and 9 losses in 2024. Last year he left a balance of 7 wins and 10 losses, which left the team out of the playoffs.
Debuts as head coach after shining with Packers’ defense

It will be the first head coaching experience for Jeff Hafley, who spent two years as the Packers’ defensive coordinator with outstanding numbers.
In 2024 he led his players to be the sixth lowest scoring defense among the 32 NFL teams.
This season, the Packers’ defense looked consistent until they lost star man Micah Parsons to injury.

The new Miami Dolphins head coach began his journey in the league with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he arrived in 2006 as a defensive assistant.
He moved on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2012 where he held the position of assistant defensive backs deep.
Same work he carried out with the Cleveland Browns from 2014 to 2015, and with the San Francisco 49ers from 2016 to 2018.
Jeff Hafley’s mission will be to give the Miami Dolphins a winning identity to reach the playoffs.

A legendary history in the NFL

The Miami Dolphins have 2 Super Bowls in their history so far.
They won Super Bowl VII and Super Bowl VIII, both in the 1970s, establishing themselves as one of the most successful teams of that era.
Their first title came in the 1972 season, when they achieved a perfect and historic campaign, and repeated as champions the following year.
Since then, although they have had outstanding seasons and memorable moments, the Miami Dolphins have not won another Super Bowl.
Still, they remain one of the most popular and followed franchises in the NFL.
