Renowned music producer Emilio Estefan has expressed his deep dismay and solidarity in the wake of the tragedy that occurred at the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
In the early morning hours of April 8, 2025, during a performance by famed merenguero Rubby Pérez, the roof of the establishment collapsed, resulting in the death of at least 58 people and leaving more than 160 injured.
Confirmed victims
Among the fatalities was Nelsy Cruz, governor of Montecristi province and sister of Major League Baseball player Nelson Cruz.
In addition, the death of former MLB pitcher Octavio Dotel has been confirmed.
While legislator Bray Vargas was injured in the incident.
The death of the same merenguero Rubby Perez was also confirmed.
Rubby Perez died in the tragedy
Rubby Pérez, known as “La Voz Más Alta del Merengue”, was performing at the time of the collapse.
Initially, it was reported that he was trapped under the rubble and had been rescued alive and transported to a medical center for care.
However, in the afternoon, authorities confirmed that the singer died without being rescued from the debris of the discotheque.
