Spain’s Jordi Alba will end his career as a professional soccer player at the conclusion of the current MLS season with Inter Miami at the end of the year, the former Valencia and Barcelona player and winner of numerous titles with the Azulgrana club announced Tuesday.
“Hello everyone. The time has come to close a transcendental stage in my life. I have made the decision to end my career as a professional footballer at the end of this season,” the 36-year-old Spanish international player said in a video posted on his social networks titled “Thank you soccer, thank you for so much.”

The left-back assured that he does so with “absolute conviction, with fullness and happiness”.
“Because I feel that I have walked this path with all the passion possible. And that now is the right time to open a new stage and close the previous one with the best of sensations,” he added.
Jordi Alba, born in Hospitalet del Llobregat, sent a message of thanks to his teammates and recalled the clubs he has played for throughout his career:
Atlético Centro Hospitalense, Nàstic de Tarragona, Valencia, with whom he made his first division debut, and Barcelona.
Also, the Spanish national team, of which he assured that he is “proud to have worn that jersey”.
Finally, to Inter Miami, which has opened its doors to him in the United States and with which he ends his professional career.
Dedicates his retirement to his family
Jordi Alba also sent a message of thanks to his parents and his brother for the efforts they made when he was young so that he could fulfill his dream.
As well as his wife and three children, his greatest support, to whom he dedicated the words: “This race is also yours, I love you”.
“Soccer has been, is and always will be an essential part of my life,” the player concluded.
Busquets bids fond farewell to Jordi Alba
Just a few minutes later, his compatriot Sergio Busquets, who also announced his retirement from soccer less than two weeks ago, sent him a message on social media.
“Congratulations @jordialbaoficial on your tremendous career. It has been a pleasure and a gift to share so many moments both on and off the field together,” he said.
“I wish you the best always and above all to continue sharing moments as a family. We love you very much family,” Busquets added.
The midfielder, with whom Jordi Alba has shared dressing rooms at Barcelona and Inter Miami, will also retire from soccer at the end of this season.
