The music world is once again looking at Flea, bassist and co-founder of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who presented the first preview of his next solo album: ‘A Plea’. The project, which will be released in 2026 under Nonesuch Records, shows a deeply personal side of the artist, marked by the return to his first musical love: the trumpet.

Although the album’s title will remain a secret until early 2026, ‘A Plea’ already offers a powerful glimpse into the project’s sonic and emotional direction. The song – written and performed entirely by Flea – brings together elements of modern jazz, experimentation and introspective sensibility.

To bring this new artistic chapter to life, Flea convened what he called a “dream band of modern jazz visionaries.”

The song features musicians of the highest quality:

Anna Butterss, double bass player

Jeff Parker, guitar

Deantoni Parks, drums

Mauro Refosco, percussion

Rickey Washington, alto flute

Vikram Devasthali, trombone

Chris Warren, additional voices

Josh Johnson, producer and alto saxophonist

The blend of these talents creates an atmosphere that oscillates between the energy of contemporary jazz and the emotional vulnerability of Flea’s voice and trumpet.

The video for ‘A Plea’, directed by Clara Balzary, daughter of the artist himself, complements the introspective tone of the song.

The visual piece shows Flea moving between contrasting light and dark spaces.

Accompanied by a choreography created by Sadie Wilking, which reinforces the idea of personal and spiritual search.

In a statement, Flea explained that the lyrics of ‘A Plea’ are “a longing for a place beyond, a place of love, where I can speak my mind and be myself.”

The musician reflected on the division affecting the United States and the world, and assured that his intention goes beyond the political debate:

“I’m not interested in the act of politics. I think there is a much more transcendent place… There is a place where we meet, and that is love.”

With this release, Flea demonstrates that his creativity continues to expand in new directions, inviting audiences to reflect, feel and connect from the depths of music.
