From partying to faith: Daddy Yankee’s spiritual twist

He seeks to bring the Kingdom into pop culture

The legendary Puerto Rican reggaetonero Daddy Yankee premiered Thursday his first album with a Christian touch, ‘Lamento en baile’, and also the first after retiring from popular music, in which he reflects that music “has the power to heal, inspire and celebrate”.

“With ‘Lamento en baile’ I wanted to show that even in life’s most difficult moments, music has the power to heal, inspire and celebrate. Each track tells a story from my heart, and I can’t wait for my fans to dance and feel this journey with me,” said Daddy Yankee in a statement.

The album, the artist’s first in three years and released under DY Records, features 19 songs.

Although only one collaboration, in the song ‘ABCD’ with Christian rapper Alex Zurdo.

Other songs that are part of the album are ‘Sonríele’, ‘El toque’, ‘Quién es Dios’, ‘Tan invitao’, “Gloria’, ‘Toy hermoso’, ‘LEB’ and ‘Jezabel y Judas’.

The musical production of ‘Jezabel y Judas’ was in charge of the Puerto Rican Sergio George.

Who collaborated with Daddy Yankee in the songs ‘De vuelta pa’ la vuelta’ and ‘Bonita’.

‘LEB’, an acronym for the album’s namesake, is a word meaning heart, the center of thinking, reflection and decision-making, the release explained.

Meanwhile, the music video ‘El toque’, was filmed in South Korea.

The album, in turn, was recorded by Daddy Yankee during one of the most challenging moments of his life, his divorce process with his ex-wife Mireddys Gonzalez.

Therefore, and as highlighted in the press release, Daddy Yankee transforms pain into rhythm and reflection into joy, delivering one of the most inspiring and energetic albums of his career.

Daddy Yankee released this new album as a preamble to his performance at the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2025 on October 23rd in Miami after almost two years of hiatus.

In an interview published in Billboard magazine, Daddy Yankee expressed that “now” his “purpose is to transform lives through music”.

This when speaking for the first time of his “renewed Christian faith,” which he cultivated during his time away from the industry.

“This is an obligation that all of us who are in the faith, who are converted, have. I can’t convert and remain silent, you know?”.

“This is not just about making Christian music. The challenge is to put the kingdom in pop culture,” the singer mentioned in Billboard’s ‘Reborn’ cover story.
