On Monday, July 28, 2025, during a serene morning in Biscayne Bay, west of Miami Beach, a barge collided with a sailboat on which six children and an instructor were sailing as part of a Miami Youth Sailing Foundation summer camp.
Two girls, aged 7 and 13, lost their lives; among them Mila Yankelevich, daughter of Argentine actress Sofía Reca and producer Tomás Yankelevich, and granddaughter of renowned producers Cris Morena and Gustavo Yankelevich.
Sofia Reca’s daughter’s tragedy
The collision occurred around 11:15 a.m., when the sailboat was intercepted by the barge.
Witnesses state that the sailboat was destroyed and the occupants were thrown into the water.
Although all were rescued, Mila and a 13-year-old girl, later identified as Erin Victoria Ko Han, died on arrival at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Of the six people on board, two other minors, ages 8 and 11, remain in critical condition.
A 12-year-old girl and the 19-year-old instructor were unharmed.
The rescue operation involved the U.S. Coast Guard, Miami-Dade firefighters and medical teams.
The barge captain underwent breathalyzer and blood tests as part of the investigation. Authorities continue to review boating licenses and safety protocols.
Who was Mila Yankelevich
Mila was born in February 2018 and resided in Surfside, Florida with her family.
She was the youngest of two children (along with Inti, born in 2010). Her mother, Sofía Reca, is an Argentine actress known for series such as Betty en Nueva York and Los Roldán, and began her career as a presenter at Disney Channel. .
The family has been part of the artistic milieu for generations: her grandmother is the creator of hits such as Rebelde Way and Floricienta.
