San Diego comes back and remains in the West lead

New York City came from behind to beat Nashville on Sunday thanks to a winning goal by Costa Rican Alonso Martinez, while San Diego consolidated its lead in the West with an agonizing victory over San Jose.

Nashville took the lead in the 10th minute of the first half with a goal by Canadian Jacob Shaffelburg, but New York City turned the score around with goals by Colombian-American Andres Perea before halftime and Alonso Martinez in the 77th minute.

Of the 13 goals scored by the Costa Rican this season, seven have been decisive in the three-point haul.

San Diego also came from behind against San Jose, who took the lead thanks to Venezuelan Josef Martinez in the 72nd minute.

Denmark’s Marcus Ingvartsen, in the 81st minute, and Anders Dreyer, in the 84th minute, sealed the win for San Diego, who remain at the top of the West for another matchday in their MLS debut year.

In the last match of the day, Vancouver and Houston Dynamo drew 1-1 in the debut of German Thomas Müller with the Canadian club.
