Renowned Puerto Rican rapper David Sánchez Badillo, known artistically as Tempo, was arrested early Friday morning, April 25, 2025, at the Mercedita Airport in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
During a routine inspection, authorities found a .40 caliber bullet in his carry-on luggage, specifically inside a watch case, and that prompted authorities to proceed to detain him.

According to reports from the Puerto Rico Police, the discovery occurred around 4:30 a.m., when Tempo was about to board a flight to Orlando, Florida.
Agent Yashira Velázquez, press officer of the Guayama Police Station, indicated that upon inspecting his luggage, a metallic object was detected, which turned out to be a .40 caliber bullet.
The artist was detained at the Ponce Oeste precinct while authorities consulted with the District Attorney’s Office to determine the corresponding charges for allegedly violating the Firearms Law, since he did not have a license to carry firearms.
Tempo’s legal background
Tempo has a significant legal history.
In 2004, he was convicted on federal drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession charges, receiving a 24-year prison sentence.
However, after a third appeal in which he pleaded guilty, his sentence was reduced to 15 years, of which he served 11 years and six months in prison.
He was released in 2014 under supervised release and concluded his total sentence in April 2024.
