Ian Watkins, former leader of the Welsh rock band ‘Lostprophets’, was killed Saturday during an attack in the British prison where he was serving a sentence for pedophilia.
Two men aged 25 and 43 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody, according to a statement from police in the West Yorkshire region (northern England).
Authorities confirmed that they had gone at 09:39 a.m. local time (08:39 GMT) Saturday to Wakefield prison after receiving a tip that a prisoner had been attacked.
Authorities detailed that the assaulted male, later identified by British media as Watkins, 48, was found with “serious injuries” and was pronounced dead on the spot, despite resuscitation attempts by emergency services.
The conviction of Ian Watkins

The former ‘Lostprophets’ frontman was sentenced to 29 years in prison in December 2013 and a further six years probation after admitting to a series of sex crimes, including the attempted rape and sexual assault of a girl under the age of 13.
The singer was arrested following the execution of a drug warrant at his home in Pontypridd (South Wales) on September 21, 2012, when a large number of computers, cell phones and storage devices were seized.
This was not the first time Watkins had been involved in a prison altercation, as in August 2023 he was also stabbed and had to be taken to the hospital, but the injuries were not life-threatening.
Formed in 1997, Welsh rock band Lostprophets released five studio albums in total, including a number one album in the UK with ‘Liberation Transmission’ (2006) and two other singles that reached the top 10 in the British charts, reported Agencia EFE.
