I have them. They have passed filters,” said Aguirre when referring to the group of players who will be defending El Tri in the 2026 World Cup.
Aguirre explains how he selected his players
The national coach explained that the evaluation process was not limited only to performance in Liga MX or in friendly matches.
According to him, the coaching staff carefully observed the players’ behavior in complicated scenarios and far from the favorable environment that Mexico normally has when playing at home.
Aguirre revealed that he took players to matches and training camps in countries such as Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia and Panama to analyze how they reacted under pressure.
“I took them to Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Panama, places where we are not local… and they have shown personality,” the coach commented.
The “Vasco” explained that the initial group exceeded 50 players.
But as the physical, tactical and mental tests progressed, the number began to dwindle.
