Last July 30, 2025, young sailor Jose Antonio Rivera Lynch IV, just 19 years old, was reported missing at sea while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN-73).
Hailing from a close-knit Hispanic family, Jose was a loving son, a beloved brother and a loyal friend whose presence enlightened those around him. His sudden passing has left his family in deep sadness, trying to make sense of a loss that no one expected.
Where did the disappearance occur?

According to the official U.S. Navy report, the aircraft carrier was deployed off the coast of Australia, engaged in routine maritime security operations in the Indo-Pacific region.
During one of these operations, Jose was reported missing and, after an intensive search by crew and rescue teams, was declared “Lost at Sea,” one of the most painful designations in the U.S. military.
Service with honor and commitment

Jose had joined the Navy out of a deep sense of service and a desire to protect others.
Despite his young age, he performed his duties with honor, courage and strong commitment, qualities that his superiors publicly emphasized when reporting his disappearance.
For his family and friends, José was much more than a military man: he was a young man full of dreams, with a promising future and a great vocation of dedication.
Campaign to support the family

In light of this tragedy, the family has launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses, transportation and other costs associated with the tributes they wish to make to honor his memory.
The donations, they explain, will be used exclusively to pay him a worthy tribute and alleviate part of the economic burden they are facing at this difficult time.
The family is deeply grateful for the support, prayers and expressions of affection they have received.
“No gesture is small,” they note on the GoFundMe page, remembering that every word of encouragement and every donation helps them find strength in the midst of pain.
José Antonio Rivera Lynch IV will be remembered not only as a sailor who served his country, but as a young man who lived with love, generosity and absolute dedication.
Jose was more than a sailor — he was a loving son, a cherished brother, and a loyal friend whose laughter and light touched everyone around him
