Julio Iglesias has given this Wednesday to Hola magazine his first statements in which he assures that “everything will be clarified”, after the sexual abuse complaint against the singer made by two of his former employees came to light this Tuesday.

Likewise, Hola reports that Julio Iglesias’ closest entourage denies “totally the facts and are astonished at what is happening”.

According to the magazine, for Iglesias “it is not the time to talk” although that time will come “very soon”, and refer that he is preparing his defense and that, according to the singer, “everything will become clear”.

Hola states that Iglesias wants to get to the bottom of the matter “so that there is no doubt as to the true circumstances and the real account of everything that happened”.

This Wednesday it was announced that the Prosecutor’s Office of the Audiencia Nacional will take a statement from the two women who on January 5 denounced, represented by Women’s Link, alleged cases of sexual harassment and assault in 2021 by singer Julio Iglesias.

At a press conference, Women’s Link’s legal team announced that the Public Prosecutor’s Office will take their statements and that, in addition, they will do so as protected witnesses.

Giovana Ríos, executive director of the organization, described the decisions as “a very important step in the search for justice” for both women, while making it clear that “the authorities are responding swiftly”.

More of Julio Iglesias’ employees have contacted the organization.

She has also revealed that there are other women who worked for the artist who have contacted them, although she has avoided mentioning whether they were also allegedly victims of the singer, so she has not offered information to protect their privacy.

As for the two complainants, there is no date foreseen for these statements, which could be made by telematic means, given that they do not reside in Spain. “We do not have those details and they are treated with certain reserve”, added the lawyer Gema Fernandez, who does not doubt that the case is “competence” of the Spanish Justice.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, for its part, insists on the secrecy of the proceedings in order not to give more details of its actions, which are pre-procedural, that is to say, that it is not being prosecuted.

Protective measures to prevent the singer from trying to locate or deter them

Ríos explained that the two decisions of the Prosecutor’s Office were part of the protective measures they had requested in their complaint, because Julio Iglesias “holds a diametrically different power from the complainants,” he said, derived from his influence and economic power.

In addition, they fear that the singer is trying to “locate” them as well as “dissuade” them from taking further action against him.

These protective measures are the following: that contact between the complainants and their relatives with the singer and his entourage be avoided; that the necessary measures be taken to protect the privacy of the women; that statements be taken from both women under appropriate conditions; and that the measures avoid the re-victimization of the female workers who are still employed by the singer.

The reported situations allegedly occurred in Julio Iglesias’ homes in the Dominican Republic, Bahamas and Spain. One of the women was a domestic employee and the other a physiotherapist.

The former workers have provided work documents, photographs, recordings, WhatsApp messages, call logs and requests for Julio Iglesias’ immigration permits to the governments of Spain, the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, according to El Diario.es and Univision, the media outlets that have carried out the investigation.

The accounts of both describe sexual aggressions such as penetrations without consent, slaps, humiliations and systematic workplace humiliations to them and other employees, reported Agencia EFE.
