The New York Knicks stormed San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center on Wednesday and, with 30 points from Jalen Brunson, beat the Spurs 105-95 to take a 1-0 lead in the 2026 NBA Finals, the second game of which will be played on Friday at the same venue.
The Knicks continued their extraordinary form and, with character and talent, sealed their 12th consecutive playoff victory after eliminating the Atlanta Hawks and sweeping the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 on their way to their first Finals in 27 years.
Knicks silence San Antonio

The Spurs succumbed despite 26 points and 12 rebounds from Frenchman Victor Wembanyama, in his NBA Finals debut after being MVP of the West.
The Knicks were down by fourteen, but Mike Brown’s team once again showed maturity.
At the Frost Bank Center, packed with Spurs fans, it was Ben Stiller, Spike Lee and Patrick Ewing who led the delegation of celebrities and basketball legends in celebration.
Brunson scored 13 of his 30 points in the fourth period after recovering from a knee injury.
OG Anunoby contributed 12 in the final segment and finished with 17.

Dominican Republic’s Karl Anthony Towns contributed an 18-point double-double for the Knicks, who took home court advantage in the series.
Wembanyama tried to rebel, but his 11 points and seven rebounds in the fourth period were not enough for the Spurs.
Neither did the 16 of rookie Dylan Harper, who went from better to worse, nor the 17 of Stephon Castle.
Mitch Johnson’s men will have to react immediately to contain the Knicks’ momentum (Filed under: NBA Finals 2026).
Fierce rhythm

It was a physical match, with high tempo and aggressiveness in every possession.
The same recipe that led both franchises to play for the ring. And it was from the beginning.
The Knicks got off to a better start, but the Spurs responded with a 20-3 spurt on the strength of Dylan Harper.
Practically perfect at the start of the game with ten points in the first period, the best mark for a rookie in a Finals since 1998, when the NBA started taking this type of statistics.
The Spurs reached a ten-point lead in the first period (27-17).
They forced a Knicks timeout, also frightened by Jalen Brunson’s conditions (Filed under: NBA Finals 2026).

The Knicks’ leader momentarily left with pain in one knee after a collision with Harrison Barnes.
But he was able to get back into contention and held his team to 11 points in the first half.
Wembanyama only connected on two of his first eight shots.
The unexpected star of the first half was Julian Champagnie, a sharpshooter from beyond the arc with a five-of-six effort that sent the Spurs up 55-48 heading into the locker room.
The Spurs felt in control of the game at the start of the third period.
This when they pushed their lead to 62-50 after the Knicks barely scored one of their first ten shots from the field (Filed under: NBA Finals 2026).

But the New Yorkers, a team that came from 22 points down in the final quarter of the East Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, showed mental toughness.
Towns led the Knicks by the hand with ten points and four rebounds to tie the game 76-76 with 12 minutes remaining.
The three-pointers started to go in for the Knicks.
After a two-for-10 third quarter, Anunoby connected for two and scored eight points in just over three minutes.
The New Yorkers pushed, but Castle answered for the Spurs, in an exchange of blows that would continue until the end.
Brunson turned up the volume with some spectacular plays and scored eight straight points for a Knicks that went up 94-86 with 6.03 to play (Filed under: NBA Finals 2026).

But Wembanyama, with his second three-pointer of the night and a tip-in in front of Towns, gave the Spurs life.
He cut the margin to one point to open a final mini overtime with 3.24 on the clock.
The Spurs’ lead reached 9-0 and Wemby scored 10 points in the final quarter to give San Antonio a 95-94 advantage.
But that was the end of San Antonio’s hopes.
Because the Knicks sealed a final 11-0 run, paced by Brunson who scored from virtually every position.
The Knicks’ 11 showed his team the way.
And his dream will be Madison Square Garden (Filed under: NBA Finals 2026).
