The American singer and songwriter Lady Gaga premiered this Wednesday ‘The Dead Dance’, her new song, which already has more than 791,000 views on YouTube, and whose video, directed by filmmaker Tim Burton, was filmed on the Isla de las Muñecas in Xochimilco, south of Mexico City.

In the video clip, shot in black and white, you can see the vegetation surrounding the emblematic canals of Xochimilco and the gloomy dolls hanging from the trees, as well as hear the sound of insects that prowl the tourist attraction.

The ‘Mother Monster’, who in April this year landed in Mexico to present her ‘Mayhem’ tour, surprised by publishing in her social networks this video clip, recorded in the Doll Islands, which contains more than 1,000 dolls worn by time and weather, collected by a Mexican in 1950.

The premiere of the song -a mix of disco, pop and gothic- went viral on social networks in Mexico, and will be part of the music for the second season of the series ‘Wednesday’, also directed by Burton and starring Jenna Ortega.

In addition, Lady Gaga joins the cast of the Netflix series by portraying Professor Rosaline Rotwood, one of the most anticipated characters in the new season that will appear this Wednesday.

In the song, Gaga wears a broken face and a Victorian outfit, similar to the dolls of the Mexican Island, in a collective work between the singer, Andrew Watt and the Canadian musician Cirkut, which brings back that gothic and theatrical essence that characterized the pieces of ‘Mayhem’, with which she offered a mythical show in the last edition of the Coachella festival in the USA.

The Mexican scenery and Lady Gaga’s mimicry with the dolls generated a wave of reactions on social networks, where users described the video clip as a work of art for how the visual elements of the country merged with the gothic style of the composer.

The Isla de las Muñecas is one of the most ‘terrifying’ corners of the Mexican capital, since inside it awaits ancestral superstitions and the story of a former owner who, more than 70 years ago, decided to hang dolls in the trees to scare away the spirit of a girl who drowned in the canals of Xochimilco.
