On August 28, 2025, during a Netflix and Spotify themed event in New York City called Wednesday Graveyard Gala, Lady Gaga burst in with Victorian Gothic style to exclusively announce her new single titled “The Dead Dance,” which will be part of the soundtrack for the second part of Merlina (Wednesday) season 2.
Joined by Jenna Ortega, Emma Myers and Joy Sunday, Gaga surprised more than 300 fans and influencers with a preview of the song in specially designed boxes, known as “listening coffins.”
Gaga shared that “The Dead Dance” is inspired by a love breakup and explores how pain can be transformed into joy by sharing with friends.

He described the track as funky, evolving from a story of a failed relationship to a celebration of emotional rebirth in companionship.

The song will be officially released on September 3, 2025, coinciding with the debut of Merlina season 2 part 2.
It was also confirmed that Gaga wrote and produced it with Andrew Watt and Cirkut, regular collaborators on her Mayhem album .
In addition to her musical contribution, Gaga will play Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary teacher at Nevermore Academy.

Netflix and the media describe her as an enigmatic figure whose role is still unclear: some fans speculate that she could become the villain who unlocks dark secrets, while others believe she will be a key mentor for Merlina Addams.
The music video for “The Dead Dance” was directed by Tim Burton and filmed at the iconic Isla de las Muñecas in Xochimilco, Mexico – a place loaded with symbolism and supernatural atmosphere.
