Latino Power in MLB: Mark Vientos connects a three-run homer to lift the Mets

Latinos shine with power in Major Leagues

Dominican Mark Vientos smashed the ball and with the power he possesses in his bat gave the Mets another boost on a Sunday Major League Baseball day in which the Dodgers swept the Padres.

METS 7-3 MARINERS
Mark Vientos blasted a home run and towed in four runs for the Mets to beat the Mariners.

Venezuela’s Francisco Álvarez scored two runs and drove in a run, and Puerto Rico’s Francisco Lindor added a run for the Mets.

Cal Raleigh homered with Cuban Randy Arozarena on base and Dominican Jorge Polanco drove in fellow Dominican Julio Rodriguez for the Mariners.

REDS 3-2 BREWERS
Mexico’s Jose Treviño drove in two runs and Austin Hays produced the go-ahead run as the Reds halted a streak of 14 consecutive wins by the Brewers, whom they blanked in the 10th inning.

Venezuelan William Contreras hit a two-run home run for the Brewers.

DODGERS 5-4 PADRES
Freddie Freeman hit a three-run home run, Cuban Andy Pages knocked the ball out of the park and Mookie Betts homered to break a tie in the eighth inning for the Dodgers to complete the sweep in their three-game series against the Padres.

Dominican Ramón Laureano hit a home run, compatriot Fernando Tatis Jr. and Cuban José Iglesias produced a run and Curacao native Xander Bogaerts scored a run for the Padres.

Venezuelan Robert Suarez (4-5) allowed one run in one inning and lost the game for San Diego.

NATIONALS 9-11 PHILLIES
Cuban Nick Castellanos knocked the ball out of the park and scored twice and Alec Bohm hit a three-run home run to lead the Phillies to a win over the Nationals.

Jhoan Durán (21) retired two batters to earn the save for the Phillies.

Paul DeJong hit a three-run home run, Dominican Luis Garcia scored two runs and countryman Jose Tena produced a run for the Nationals.

TILES 4-10 RANGERS
Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Mexican Alejandro Kirk and George Springer sent the ball out of the park, but Puerto Rico’s Jose Berrios (9-5) was blasted with six runs in 4.1 innings and the Blue Jays ended up falling to the Rangers.

Mexico’s Rowdy Tellez scored a run for the Rangers, who also got home runs from Marcus Semien and Corey Seager.

GUARDIANS 4-5 BRAVOS
Curacao native Jurickson Profar hit a two-run homer to lead the Braves in their win over the Guardians.

Venezuela’s Ronald Acuña Jr. scored a run and Curaçao’s Ozzie Albies had an RBI, while Cuba’s Raisel Iglesias (19) completed the ninth without a run scored and earned the save for the Braves.

Daniel Schneemann produced two runs for the Guardians.

CARDINALS 4-8 YANKEYS
Panama’s Jose Caballero and Dominican Republic’s Jasson Dominguez each scored and drove in a run and the Yankees stepped to the plate four times in the ninth inning to beat the Cardinals.

Venezuela’s Yohel Pozo had a home run and Panama’s Iván Herrera scored once for the Cardinals, according to EFE.
