Latinos on fire: Torrens, Caminero, Durán and Kirk shine in MLB

Torrens leads Mets’ rout of Phillies

Venezuela’s Luis Torrens, Mexico’s Jarren Durán and Alejandro Kirk and Dominican Junior Caminero stood out on Monday among Latino baseball players in Major League Baseball (MLB).

GUARDIANS 0-9 RAYS

Dominican Junior Caminero hit two homers, scored four runs and drove in three as the Rays defeated the Guardians.

Caminero, whose 39 home runs tied compatriot Carlos Peña for the Rays’ all-time home run mark before the end of August, was backed by Cuban Yandy Díaz, who homered for the Rays.

Venezuelans Brayan Rocchio and Gabriel Arias each had one hit for the Guardians.

METS 13-3 PHILIPPINES

Venezuelan Luis Torrens hit a home run and drove in five runs to lead the Mets’ comeback victory over the Phillies.

Dominican Mark Vientos drove in two runs, his compatriot Starling Marte scored and drove in one and Juan Soto added a run scored for the Mets, who had the winner in Venezuelan José Castillo, who threw a blank inning.

Dominican Cristopher Sanchez lost for the Phillies.

MARLINS 2-1 BRAVOS

Dominican Edward Cabrera struck out 10 and allowed just one hit in seven innings, while Venezuelan Maximo Acosta hit a home run to lead the Marlins’ victory over the Braves.

Otto López scored a run for the winners.

ORIOLES 3-4 RED STOCKINGS

Mexico’s Jarren Durán hit a three-run homer to clinch the Red Sox victory over the Orioles.

Cuban Aroldis Chapman, one of MLB’s best closers, pitched a scoreless ninth to earn the save.

YANKEES 10-5 NATIONALS

Dominican Jasson Dominguez hit a three-run home run to help the Yankees win against the Nationals.

Jacob Young hit a grand slam for the Nationals.

TILES 10-4 TWINS

Mexico’s Alejandro Kirk hit a two-run homer and scored two runs and Venezuela’s Andres Gimenez hit a home run with three runs scored and two driven in to help the Blue Jays beat the Twins.

Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits for the Blue Jays.

BREWERS 7-5 DIAMONDBACKS

Venezuela’s Andruw Monasterio homered, scored and drove in two runs, and Caleb Durbin also homered as the Brewers subdued the Diamondbacks.

Venezuelan William Contreras singled and Dominican Abner Uribe completed the scoreless ninth to earn the save.

Venezuelan Eduardo Rodríguez also allowed five runs in 2.1 innings and lost the game for Arizona in another MLB game, according to EFE.
