On July 25, 2025, Lori Vallow Daybell received two consecutive life sentences in Arizona for conspiring with her brother, Alex Cox, to murder her then-husband, Charles Vallow, in July 2019, and for the attempted murder of her niece’s ex-husband, Brandon Boudreaux.

The court determined that the purpose was to benefit from Charles’ life insurance policy, valued at $1 million. Cox was the one who fatally shot Vallow and who subsequently attempted to kill Boudreaux.

Although he defended himself by claiming self-defense, he died of pulmonary embolism in 2020 without facing trial.

Vallow Daybell chose to represent herself in both Arizona trials, without calling witnesses or presenting evidence on her own behalf.

The jury quickly found her guilty in April for conspiracy to murder her husband and again in June for the attempt on Boudreaux.

At the sentencing hearing, Judge Justin Beresky condemned her “religious manipulation” and ruled that she should never be released.

Lori is already serving three life sentences from 2023 in Idaho for the murder of her two children (Tylee, 16, and JJ, 7) and for conspiring to kill her husband’s ex-wife, Tammy Daybell.

Chad Daybell – her husband after Charles’ death – was sentenced to death in 2024 for those crimes.

Both shared extreme religious beliefs that justified the murders as part of an apocalyptic mission against “demonic possession”.

At the hearings, relatives of the victims gave emotional testimonies.

Brandon Boudreaux spoke of lingering fear in the aftermath of the failed bombing, while Lori’s surviving son, Colby Ryan, described a devastating grieving process.

Boudreaux stated that he never received any remorse from Lori or her entourage.

The case reflects how extremist ideologies disguised as faith can lead to extreme family violence.

It underscores the importance of maintaining vigilance over religious leaders and circles of influence, including within migrant communities.
