This Wednesday, the iconic Mexican band Los Bukis was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, California.

The star, number 2,817, is located in the heart of the historic Hollywood Boulevard and represents recognition not only of the group’s musical career, but also of its connection to the Latino immigrant community in the United States.

“We want to dedicate this star to all the immigrants gathered here in this beautiful country, to all the workers who strive every day to serve,” said Marco Antonio Solis, singer, songwriter and leader of the group, during the ceremony.

His speech was applauded by hundreds of fans who attended with Mexican flags, band t-shirts and tears in their eyes.

Solis added emotionally: “Our heart goes out to all the people who are suddenly suffering from these adversities we are going through. We fully trust that this will have a prompt solution and may God bless the minds and hearts of those who have the destiny”.

His message made reference to the ongoing struggle of millions of immigrants who face challenges such as deportations, discrimination and labor exploitation.

The ceremony was hosted by renowned Mexican-American comedian Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias, who offered words of admiration and humor.

He compared Los Bukis ‘ influence on Latin music to the impact artists like Taylor Swift have on international pop: “For Latinos, Los Bukis are our Beatles. Their music has accompanied weddings, farewells, love and nostalgia,” said Iglesias, visibly moved.

Formed in the 1970s by cousins Marco Antonio and Joel Solís in Michoacán, Mexico, Los Bukis – which means “children” in the Yaqui language – began as a duo and evolved into a full band with the addition of Marco Ibarra, Arturo Martínez and Alfonso Bugarini.

Their success came in 1976 with the song “Falso Amor”, and since then they have marked a before and after in Mexican regional romantic music.

Thanks to the unmistakable voice and sentimental lyrics of Marco Antonio Solís, the group established itself as a pioneer of the Spanish-language romantic ballad.

The official website of the Walk of Fame defines them as “indisputable referents of popular music in Latin America”.

After a 25-year separation, Los Bukis returned in 2021 with the “Una Historia Cantada” tour, one of the most successful tours for a Latin group in the US.

The tour began with a sold-out run at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, and concluded with a monumental concert at Mexico City’s Estadio Azteca, marking their reunion with fans from different generations.
