Mario Guevara’s son sends a message one month after his arrest: “Today marks four weeks since my father’s arrest; already one month without being able to see him or hug him. We miss him very much. His absence has hurt us and we know that the battle is very difficult because it is the most powerful government in the world that wants to expel him from the country. But we are determined not to give up and we continue to hope for a miracle.
“Our MG News legal team is working hard every day to get him out, but the task is very difficult. We thank all our community who want to do their bit to continue this fight. Here is the link to our official GoFundMe page. Thank you in advance”.
Who is Mario Guevara?

On the GoFundMe page, you can read the following:
“My name is Oscar Guevara, son of Mario Guevara, a journalist with more than 25 years of experience.”
“He was arrested on June 14, 2025 while covering the ‘No Kings’ protest in Georgia, simply for doing his job.”
“Since then, he has been transferred between five different detention centers, including twice to the ICE Processing Center in Folkston, where he currently remains.”
Although an immigration judge granted him bond, confirming that he poses no danger to the community, ICE refuses to release him.
Impact on the family and community

The prolonged detention of Mario Guevara, who was the family’s main provider, has had a significant emotional and economic impact.
In addition to being a committed reporter to the Hispanic community-reporting on ICE operations, broadcasting live events and covering news-Mario now needs the support of the same community he has always supported.
Oscar explains that his family misses him very much.

How to help

Mario Guevara’s family has created a GoFundMe campaign with the goal of:
Cover legal expenses of the bail process and pleadings
Maintain the financial support of the household
Provide emotional and logistical support during detention
With only one month since his arrest and after being transferred on multiple occasions, the campaign seeks to reinforce the visibility of the case and mobilize Hispanic networks in the U.S. in support of a journalist detained for doing his job.
