Max Verstappen returned to the top of the podium by winning the Japanese Grand Prix 2025, adding his first victory of the season after a start of the year dominated by McLaren. The Dutch driver, current four-time world champion, completed an impeccable performance at the Suzuka Circuit and cut a four-race winless streak.
From qualifying, Max Verstappen showed that he was determined to make up ground in the championship. He took the pole position after setting a record time on a dry track, despite the rains that fell hours before. At the start, he kept the lead and held firm against the constant harassment of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
Perfect driving

With this win, Max Verstappen became the first driver to win four consecutive times at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Thus, he surpassed Michael Schumacher’s record of three consecutive victories between 2000 and 2002.
He had not won a race since the penultimate date of 2024 in Qatar.
During the race, Max Verstappen had to deal with a competitive pack.
On lap 25 he overtook Alex Albon, who had mechanical problems, and later took advantage of a Hamilton pit stop to regain the lead for good on lap 33.
Norris and Piastri followed closely, but the pace of the Red Bull was relentless.
Spaniard Fernando Alonso finished 11th, while Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda made his debut with Red Bull’s first team and finished 12th.
Charles Leclerc was fourth, followed by George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, the young Italian who stands out in his debut season with Mercedes.
This is how the 2025 championship is going

With this victory, Max Verstappen now has 61 points and is second in the overall standings, just one point behind leader Lando Norris (62) and ahead of Piastri (49).
The championship is more even than ever and the next date will be key.
Formula 1 will continue its calendar next Sunday, April 13 at the Bahrain International Circuit.
