In the midst of the escalation in the Middle East due to the U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs(SRE) and several embassies on Saturday called on Mexicans in countries in the region to take extreme precautions and follow the instructions of local authorities.

In addition, the Foreign Ministry called to be informed through official channels, register their location data and have at hand consular emergency numbers shared by embassies in various publications on social networks.

Mexico asks its citizens to exercise extreme caution

In a publication in X, the general director of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vanessa Calva Ruiz, asked Mexicans:

“Take note” of the contact information of the Mexican embassies and heed the official recommendations.

The main measures reiterated by various Mexican representations include:

Stay in safe places, preferably at home; avoid non-essential outings.

Keep your phone charged; and communicate your location and personal situation to family members to maintain constant contact.

In Jordan, the Mexican embassy recommended staying in safe places and avoiding leaving the house if sirens are heard.

Stay away from windows, avoid elevators and, if in a car, pull over to the side of the road and stay inside the vehicle.

It also disseminated recommendations from the Jordanian National Center for Security and Crisis Management.

On what to do if a missile or drone falls, such as stay away from the area of the incident, do not touch fragments, report to authorities (911), do not congregate, avoid taking photographs of the site and do not disseminate unverified information.

The Mexican Embassy in Israel informed that civil protection guidelines in the country were modified from “full activity” to “essential activity” level.

Therefore, he recommended following the official indications.

In Iran, the Mexican representation stated as “important information” that the Iranian authorities decided to close the airspace “until further notice”.

He asked to maintain contact with the airlines and the embassy.

Other advisories included recommendations for registration and assistance, as in Qatar, where the embassy asked to stay in homes, have basic documents and supplies on hand and follow information issued by Qatari authorities.

In Kuwait, the embassy urged to stay informed by official sources, to stay in safe places away from military bases, and to inform family members of the location.

In another notice, the Embassy of Mexico in Saudi Arabia called on Mexicans living in or visiting Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen to register their data and to remain attentive to the evolution of the situation.

He specified that, with the exception of Bahrain, so far these countries have not closed their airspace or decreed emergency measures.

He recommended verifying the validity of the passport, having a residence permit, visa and important documentation at hand.

And, if you have travel plans, contact airlines or airports to confirm flight status.

In a publication issued yesterday, the SRE informed that it remains attentive to the situation in the Middle East and called on Mexicans to avoid traveling to Iran and Israel “given the current circumstances”.

At the same time, he pointed out that diplomatic personnel will be in contact with nationals in the region and that Israel had not received any requests for consular assistance up to that moment (Archived as: Mexican Embassies Issue Urgent Alert in the Face of Escalation in the Middle East)
