With just over a year to go before the start of the 2026 World Cup, expectations among Mexican fans not only revolve around the team’s performance, but also the jersey that the Mexican National Team will wear as hosts. In collaboration with Adidas, El Tri is already working on what will be its most emblematic uniform in decades.
As recently revealed by journalist Martin del Palacio, the Mexican Soccer Federation and Adidas are developing a jersey inspired by the iconic design that Mexico used in France 1998, recognized worldwide for having the Aztec Calendar printed on the front.
Back to the traditional green… with history
The initial leak, published by the specialized portal Footy Headlines, showed a Mexican National Team jersey with a vertical tricolor stripe (green, white and red) across the chest.
It is similar in style to the Argentina 1978 away kit.
However, sources close to Adidas confirmed that this design was discarded after further discussions with the federation.
Now, the design that is gaining momentum is the return of classic green with graphic elements from the past.
The 1998-inspired version would combine cultural identity and nostalgia.
Elements that the brand seeks to highlight as Mexico will host the World Cup, along with the United States and Canada.
When will it be revealed?
Although there is still no official date for the presentation of the Mexican National Team’s jersey, Adidas is expected to unveil the new uniform in the first months of 2026.
This is part of a global launch campaign for its sponsored selections.

For the moment, no official image has been released, although the conceptual design of the Aztec Calendar caused excitement among fans.
The jersey would be used in preparation matches as well as in the Mexican National Team’s debut in the World Cup.
