Warner Bros. has officially confirmed what many fans have been waiting for: the sequel to A Minecraft Movie will hit theaters on July 23, 2027.

The original film, released in April 2025, adapted the iconic Minecraft video game into a movie format and became an unexpected phenomenon. Starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge and other cast members, the film grossed approximately $957 million globally.

Minecraft will have a sequel in 2027

In the United States, its opening grossed nearly $162 million in its first weekend, making it the strongest opening for a video game adaptation.

It also became a viral sensation, with audiences cheering phrases like “chicken jockey” in theaters.

That success paved the way for Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures to continue exploring this universe on the big screen.

What is known about the Minecraft sequel?

So far, details are scarce, but there are already key confirmations:

Jared Hess will return as director and co-writer with Chris Galletta, who worked on the first installment.

Jason Momoa is listed as a producer on the new film.

It has not yet been confirmed which actors from the original cast will return, nor what the main plot of this second episode will be.

Warner Bros. launched on social networks a teaser with two “netherite” spikes – iconic weapon of the Minecraft world – and the text “Building terrain. See you in theaters July 23 2027.”

Much of the storyline, characters and scenarios that the sequel will explore remain a mystery. There is speculation that they could delve into biomes of the Minecraft world, unexplored enemies or new dimensions.

Why is it relevant to U.S. Hispanics?

For Latinos living in the United States, this news has several important angles:

Latin American presence in commercial cinema. Minecraft is one of the most successful films of the year and proves that video game adaptations can have a big impact on the global market, including the Latino market.

Expected U.S. release date. The release date is already set for the U.S. (July 23, 2027), which allows us to plan now for promotion strategies, dubbing/subtitles, release venues in Hispanic communities, etc.

Opportunities for Latino talent. With the success of the first film and the interest in expanding the Minecraft universe, there could be openings for actors, screenwriters, designers or talents of Latin origin in the production of this sequel.

Potential cultural and viral impact. Already with the first film we saw viral phenomena – fans chanting lines or creating memes – and the enthusiasm was able to combine cinema, video games and pop culture in a global way.

The second installment has the potential to replicate or surpass that effect, especially among young Latinos.
