Created by Erin Foster, Nobody Wants This is loosely inspired by her own life and centers on Joanne (Bell), a sarcastic, agnostic woman who hosts a radio show about sex, relationships and dating.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she falls in love with Noah (Brody), a rabbi with strong religious convictions.
The series explores with humor and sensitivity the clash between two opposing worlds – faith and skepticism, freedom and compromise – as its protagonists try to find a middle ground between modern love and cultural traditions.
The first season won over critics for its freshness and its ability to address complex issues with irony and tenderness.
The success of the second season
The second season, released just two weeks ago, delved into Joanne and Noah’s relationship following their engagement.
With episodes focusing on wedding planning, family tensions and ideological differences, the series maintained its balance between romantic humor and emotional reflection.
This installment included guest stars such as Leighton Meester, who played Noah’s ex; and Emmy winner Seth Rogen as a charismatic rabbi who serves as a comedic counterpoint to Brody’s character.
According to the platform’s own data, Nobody Wants This remained during its premiere week in the Top 10 global comedy series on Netflix, positioning itself especially well among young adult audiences.
In Latin America and the United States, the show has also resonated with Hispanic viewers, thanks to its portrayal of cultural and religious clashes in modern relationships.
What’s next for the third season
Although Netflix has not advanced details about the plot, sources close to the production noted that the third season will address Joanne and Noah’s married life.
In addition to the dilemmas that arise when ideological differences begin to affect their daily routine.
Erin Foster, creator and head writer, confirmed in a recent interview with Variety that she is already working on the new scripts and promised “a more mature, emotionally honest and even funnier season.”
With this renewal, Nobody Wants This cements its place as one of Netflix’s most successful romantic comedies in recent years, alongside titles such as Emily in Paris and Love Is Blind.
