The National Football League(NFL) fined Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones $250,000 for the obscene gesture he made last Sunday at MetLife Stadium during a 22-37 win over the New York Jets.
The incident occurred in the final minutes of the game corresponding to week five of the season. Jones, located in one of the boxes of the stadium, was recorded by several fans while celebrating a touchdown for his team.
Apologizes for obscene gesture at the stadium

The images show the manager raising his right hand with his thumb up.
But then he lowers his limb and shows his middle finger towards the lower rostrum before pointing his index finger in the same direction.
The video quickly went viral on social networks and sparked criticism of the owner of the most valuable franchise in world sports.
This Tuesday, Jerry Jones offered a public apology through the radio station 105.3 ‘The Fan’ and assured that his action was an unintentional mistake.
“The gesture was an oversight on my part. It was after our last touchdown and we were all excited.”
“The intention was to give the thumbs up and point to our fans, because they were all jumping for joy,” the businessman explained.
He claims that his gesture was accidental

According to his words, he never intended to offend or mock rival fans.
“There was no antagonism problem or anything like that. I just made a bad presentation with my hand. It was an oversight. If they want to call it accidental, they can. But it was corrected pretty quickly,” he added.
The NFL has not officially commented on the sanction, although sources close to the league confirmed to EFE that the economic punishment has already been communicated to the club.
The Jerry Jones case adds to other similar precedents in the league.
Last season, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper was fined $300,000 after throwing a drink toward Jacksonville Jaguars fans during a verbal altercation.
Likewise, in the 2009 season, Bud Adams, then owner of the Tennessee Titans and deceased in 2013, was fined $250,000 for making the same gesture against Buffalo Bills fans.
The NFL demands respect and discipline

The NFL has reiterated on several occasions its intention to maintain high standards of conduct among its players, coaches and owners.
At the start of the current season, the league sent a memo to all 32 teams warning that it would be strict with any disrespect or inappropriate behavior on and off the field.
Jerry Jones, who has coached the Cowboys since 1989 and has won three Super Bowls, closed his remarks by regretting what happened and assuring that the incident does not reflect his relationship with the fans.
“It was a moment of confusion and emotion. I would never do anything to hurt the image of the Cowboys or the NFL,” he concluded.
