The Mexican National Team defeated the Ivory Coast 1-0 on Friday thanks to a header by defender Ian Fernando Olvera to continue with direct qualification options to the Round of 16 of the U-17 World Cup in Qatar.
Both teams had good chances in the first half, but neither was accurate in the final meters.
Header score

After the restart, Côte d’Ivoire threatened the Mexican penalty area time and again, but were unable to find a way through.
In the 74th minute, Mexico’s U-17 National Team capitalized on its only clear chance from a set piece with a Gael Garcia free kick and scored thanks to an unassailable header by Olvera.
The Africans continued to insist but were once again guilty of inaccuracy and ended up still without a point in the tournament.
For its part, Mexico is placed third in Group F with 4 points, and will play a good part of its chances of advancing directly to the playoffs against Switzerland on the last matchday.

An unexpected debut

Mexico’s U-17 National Team lost 1-2 to South Korea U-17 in Group F of the U-17 World Cup 2025 played on November 4 in Doha.
Mexico took the lead with a goal by Aldo De Nigris in the 44th minute, but Korea responded quickly in the 49th minute with a goal by Nam Ian and opened the gap with a goal by Koo Hyeon-Bin in the 19th minute.
In terms of statistics, the South Koreans dominated possession with 56% compared to 44% for the Mexicans, and took 17 shots to just 8 for El Tri, showing greater offensive accuracy, according to ESPN.
Although Mexico U-17 had options, the defense showed vulnerability against second and set pieces; Korea took advantage of the strategy and closed the game with skill.
