Patrice Evra, former Manchester United left back and historic figure of the France national team, is ready to write a new chapter in his sporting life. At 43, Evra will make his official mixed martial arts(MMA) debut on May 23, 2025, at the PFL Europe 2 event, to be held at the iconic Accor Arena in Paris.

His transition to MMA is not a recent one. Since 2016, Patrice Evra has been practicing combat sports, training intensively with experts such as Cédric Doumbé, current star of the Professional Fighters League (PFL). Now, the former footballer is fulfilling his dream of fighting professionally, in a bout that, although exhibition, will mark a milestone in his career.

Patrice Evra has made it clear that this is not an impromptu venture:

His preparation has been meticulous, working on striking, grappling and self-defense techniques to adapt to the demanding dynamics of MMA.

A sport where every mistake can be decisive.

So far, the PFL has not confirmed the name of the opponent who will face Patrice Evra in Paris.

However, the ex-footballer has joked on social networks about the possibility of facing old acquaintances, such as Uruguay’s Luis Suarez, recalling their historic rivalry in the Premier League:

“He can even bite me,” he jokingly posted, referring to the famous incident in which Suarez bit an opponent.

What is known is that the fight will be part of a night full of emotions.

The PFL Europe 2 card will also feature other high-profile bouts in various weight divisions.

News of Patrice Evra’s MMA debut has resonated strongly in the U.S. Hispanic community, where European soccer has a huge fan base.

Many remember his golden years at Manchester United and his leadership of the French national team.
