Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’ leads the box office this weekend with a worldwide take of $88 million, while ‘The Bride!’, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s reinterpretation of the Frankenstein myth, debuts well below expectations with $13.5 million.

The figures, according to data from the website Box Office Mojo, position the new Pixar film as one of the best debuts for an animated film since ‘Coco’ (2017), The Hollywood Reporter notes.

Directed by Daniel Chong, ‘Hoppers’ tells the story of a 19-year-old girl who infiltrates the animal world using the body of a beaver to protect its habitat. The film has received good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% on and an A rating on CinemaScore.

In contrast, the film ‘The Bride!’, starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale, fell far short of initial forecasts. The film grossed 7.2 million in North America – the United States and Canada – and about 6.3 million in the rest of the world. In total, it grossed 13.5 million worldwide.

The film, a revised version of the classic tale of the Bride of Frankenstein and budgeted at approximately $80 million, received mixed reviews and a lukewarm response from audiences.

‘Scream 7′ remains for the second week at the top of the box office, this week in second place, adding $17.3 million in North America and accumulating $149 million in worldwide grosses.

GOAT’ and ‘Wuthering Heights’ close the list with grosses of US$6.6 million and US$3.8 million in North America, with global grosses of US$146.3 million and US$213.66 million, respectively, reported Agencia EFE.
