A group of demonstrators protested Thursday in Rome against the participation of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics (north), in the first of a series of mobilizations planned in Italy against this decision.
The rally, called by the More Europe party, gathered about fifteen people who, to the sound of orange whistles, carried signs with slogans such as “No to ICE in Italy” and “Milan-Cortina are not your Games”.
Protests point fingers at Italian government for silence on ICE

Another banner showed Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Interior Minister Antonio Piantedosi together with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni under the slogan “ICE squads in Italy?”.
Accompanied by the phrase “I do not see, I do not hear, I do not speak”, in allusion to the silence of the Italian Government.
The secretary of More Europe, Riccardo Magi, explained to the media that the mobilization seeks to express “solidarity with the American people.”
He also denounced a political strategy that, he said, has transformed migration management into an apparatus of political repression.
Magi stated that a logic of “racist policies” has been imposed in the United States.
And that legality has been replaced by the systematic abuse of power.
He also insisted that the debate is not operational, but political.
And he accused Giorgia Meloni’s Executive of failing to defend the country’s democratic dignity before Washington.

For her part, the party’s deputy secretary, Antonella Soldo, warned that Italy is living a paradoxical situation.
This was due to having to denounce before the embassy of the country that historically presented itself as a symbol of freedom “the lack of liberties, security and rule of law”.
Protests will continue in the coming days, especially in Milan.
Although the Government of Italy insists that the collaboration will be limited to “analysts” of the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
That is, the investigative arm of ICE, not operational agents.
For next Saturday, different opposition formations, such as the Democratic Party (PD), and organizations such as the National Association of Partisans of Italy (ANPI), have called for a new rally in Milan at 14.30 local time (13.30 GMT).
Italy will host from February 6 to 22 the 25th Olympic Winter Games in the Alpine cities of Milan and Cortina with the presence of athletes from 93 countries from all over the world.
