Ramón Juárez, defender of Mexican soccer team América, said Friday that he is motivated by the fact that coach Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre has told him that he has not defined more than half of the list of players he will take to the next World Cup in 2026.
“Javier always makes us see that the reality is that more than half of those who are going to the World Cup are not sure. That’s why he tells us to take advantage of every opportunity, regardless of whether it’s in a micro-cycle or on a FIFA date, because the spots are open for whoever is better,” said the 24-year-old defender.
Ramón Juárez, champion with Mexico in the last CONCACAF Nations League, assured that he is not disappointed to have been left out of the call-up list for the Mexican national team to play against Japan and Korea, on September 6 and 9, during the FIFA matchday.
“It is not unfair, I respect Javier’s decisions. He made the decision not to take me into account in this list, of course I was excited to be there, to play with the national team, but there is no other choice but to continue working in my team to be present in future calls”, said the player.
Ramón Juárez was one of the 24 players that Aguirre had under observation between August 25 and 27 in the first of several of the so-called micro-cycles that the coach will carry out in order to have a greater number of players under observation in preparation for the World Cup.
Juárez, a regular in the 11-man squad of Brazilian André Jardine, América’s coach, acknowledged that his performance must be outstanding in his team to convince Aguirre that he deserves a place in the national team, because that is also the path to European soccer.
“I dream of being a reference of this team, a legend. I would love to consolidate my position in the national team, to play in Europe, but if it doesn’t happen, I would be happy to play my whole life in this team,” he concluded.
The defender has been with the Águilas since the Apertura 2023. Of the 52 games he has played, he has started 37.
América is undefeated and occupies second place in the Apertura 2025 with 17 points, one point behind leaders Monterrey.
In the seventh round of the competition, the Águilas hosted Pachuca on Saturday, according to information from EFE.
